Volleyball’s Comeback Falls Short in Fifth Set at CMSV

Ksiyer Puts Down Career-Best 30 Kills for Pioneers

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Trailing 2-1, the William Paterson volleyball team (8-6) rallied to force a decisive fifth set, but host Mount Saint Vincent (8-6) was able to come away with the 3-2 victory Sept. 30.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers took the opening set by a 25-18 count, but the Dolphins won the next two by scores of 26-24 and 25-19. WP evened the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory, but CMSV secured the win with a 15-13 decision in the fifth.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior middle hitter Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota ) added 12 digs to her career-high 30 kills.
  • Senior outside hitter Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) had 18 kills and a career-best 29 digs, and senior setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) established a new career high with 52 assists.
  • Junior middle hitter Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) had her fourth career double-double with 13 digs and a career-best 16 kills.
  • Freshman defensive specialist Ciara Feliz (Bogota, N.J./Bogota ) compiled her first double-digit digs effort with 10, while senior libero/outside hitter Kyla Sebello (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) collected 19 digs.
