Volleyball Defeats Baruch at Manhattanville Tri-Match

Pioneers Upend Bearcats in Four Sets after Loss to Valiants

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (3-3) earned a four-set victory against Baruch (1-5) after falling to host Manhattanville (3-1) in three sets Sept. 11.
 
MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Valiants secured set wins of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-18 against the Pioneers.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior outside hitter Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) collected nine kills and 19 digs, and senior setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) added 10 digs to her 13 assists.
 
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a narrow 26-24 opening loss, WP reeled off victories of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-22 to put away Baruch.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Apicella established new career bests with 21 kills and 23 digs. Junior middle hitter Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota ) posted 12 kills and 15 digs.
  • Volavka contributed 35 assists and a career-high 19 digs, while junior middle hitter Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) and senior libero/outside hitter Kyla Sebello (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) each tallied 13 digs.
