Volleyball Concludes Home Stand with 3-0 Defeat to Perennial Power Stockton

Ospreys down Pioneers 25-13, 25-14, 25-13

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson volleyball (0-3, 0-3 NJAC) wrapped-up its regular season home slate with a 3-0 defeat to New Jersey Athletic Conference powerhouse Stockton (3-0, 3-0 NJAC) March 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing 6-3 in the first, outside hitter Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) collected three straight kills and the Pioneers forced a pair of Osprey attack errors to take a 9-8 lead. Stockton responded by outscoring WP 17-4 the rest of the way to take the opener, 25-13.
  • Stockton controlled the second frame from the start, racing out to a commanding 6-1 edge. Down 12-6, four WP kills, two by Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick), and one each from Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) and Burrough, brought the home side to within three (14-11). However, Stockton limited William Paterson to one kill in the remainder of the set to claim a 25-14 decision.
  • In the third, Stockton's offense proved to be too much with the Ospreys recording a .640 hitting-percentage (17-1-25) en route taking the final stanza and match, 25-13.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • After missing the previous match, Apicella returned to the lineup to record a near double-double of nine kills and 10 digs, both team highs.
  • Burrough finished with five kills and eight digs, and O'Shea added five kills to go along with two aces.
