Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) posted a career-best 10 kills, but William Paterson women's volleyball (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) could not get the win in the coaching debut of head coach
Andrea Marino, falling at home to Rugters-Camden (1-0, 1-0 NJAC), 3-0, in the season opener for both teams March 2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- William Paterson limited Rutgers-Camden to a .182 hitting percentage (7-3-22) in the first set, but costly errors allowed the visitors to take the opener, 25-16.
- Back-and forth action ensued for most of the second frame until a RUC ball handling error gave WP a late 18-17 advantage. The Scarlet Raptors regrouped and used a 5-1 run to gain some separation and took the set, 25-22.
- Offensively in the third, Apicella landed five kills at a .455 rate (5-0-11), but Rutgers-Camden used an early 5-0 edge and never trailed, ultimately taking the set and the match, 25-16.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Apicella concluded her evening by hitting .450 (10-1-20) to go along with eight digs and a service ace.
- Kyla Sebello (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) contributed 19 assists in her first match as WP setter.
- Libero Taylor Crowley (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) collected a team-best 13 digs, while Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) tallied five kills and six digs.
- Tuesday's contest featured the Pioneer coaching debut of head coach Andrea Marino.
