Pioneers top Scarlet Raiders, 67-42, to give coach milestone win

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – Head coach Erin Monahan earned her 500th career victory as the William Paterson women's basketball team (2-2, 2-2 NJAC) led wire-to-wire en route to a convincing 67-42 victory over visiting Rutgers-Newark (2-2, 2-2 NJAC) Feb. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With the Pioneers in front by three (11-8) late in the first quarter, Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) ended the session with back-to-back layups and WP pushed in front, 15-11, after 10 minutes. RUN would cut the deficit to one (17-16, 8:16) before an 18-2 WP run, capped off by Brianna Brooks' (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) jumper, gave the hosts a commanding 17-point cushion. Rutgers-Newark would score the half's final six tallied, but William Paterson led 35-24 at the break.
  •  The second half belonged to WP, who outscored RUN 16-7 in the third and 16-11 in fourth and cruised to the 25-point triumph, 67-42.
