Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, MASS.- The William Paterson men's basketball team (2-1) fell on the road at Westfield State (4-0) 96-79, in the championship game of the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Tournament on Nov. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Pioneers held a 43-31 lead at halftime, shooting 19 for 40 from the field.
  • Westfield controlled much of the second half, taking control at 57-55 with just 12 minutes to play.
  • A 12-1 run gave Westfield a 72-59 lead with 8:06 left.
  • WP fought back, shrinking the deficit to 77-70 with 4:26 left, however Westfield held off the comeback.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) scored a career-high 34 points, on 12 for 21 shooting, adding six rebounds.
  • Graduate student Brian Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) added 15 points and four assists.
