UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (10-12, 8-7 NJAC) dropped its conference road test to Kean (15-7, 11-4 NJAC), 63-46, Feb. 8. Despite the loss, the Pioneers secured a spot in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Saturday, Feb. 22.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Tied 14-14 after the first quarter, and 29-29 with 41 seconds remaining in the first half, Kean used four free throws and a last-second layup to take a six-point advantage into the break, 35-29.
- Senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) drained a three-pointer with 3:32 left in the third period to make it a one-possession contest (45-42), but the Cougars responded with six straight tallies and held a 51-44 edge after 30 minutes. Kean put the game away in the fourth by outscoring WP 12-2 en route to the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior guard Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) set a new person-best in scoring, chipping in 17 points and adding seven rebounds and three steals.
- Giordano scored in double figures for the fifth consecutive contest, ending with 10 tallies.
