Women’s Basketball Inches Closer to NJAC Bid with 77-53 Win at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. – Senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) matched her season-high with 20 points as William Paterson (10-11, 8-6 NJAC) inched one step closer to securing a bid in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament with a 77-53 win at Rutgers-Newark (3-18, 1-13 NJAC) Feb. 5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Paced by Giordano's 11 first-quarter points, WP opened a seven-point advantage, 23-16. Aided by a 10-2 run midway through the second period, the Scarlet Raiders nearly erased an 11-point deficit and trailed the Pioneers at the break, 41-37.
  • The William Paterson defense limited Rutgers-Newark to 5.6 percent (1-18) shooting in the third frame and outscored the hosts 18-7 to build a 59-44 lead after 30 minutes. WP would not allow RUN to get any closer than 12 in the final period and pulled away to register a 24-point triumph.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman forward Allison McBride (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) scored a season-best 18 points and added nine rebounds, while classmate Madison Dulude (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) contributed 14 tallies and four steals.
  • Junior forward Vianca Soriano (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) posted her first double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
