MAHWAH, N.J. – Senior forward
Hershell Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Timber Creek) scored a career-high 16 points, but the William Paterson men's basketball team (9-15, 5-12 NJAC) could not overcome a slow start as the Pioneers dropped an 85-56 decision at Ramapo (15-9, 11-6 NJAC) Feb. 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ramapo scored the game's first nine points and led by as many as 21 (31-10, 9:16) before WP responded with an 11-2 burst to cut the deficit to 12 (33-21). The Roadrunners answered back with a 15-2 run of its own and entered the break with a 48-24 advantage.
- The Pioneers would enjoy a better offensive showing in the second stanza, knocking down nearly 40.0 (11-28) percent of their attempts after intermission. However, Ramapo was equally efficient from the field, never letting WP get closer than 17 points as the hosts cruised to the 29-point triumph.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Williams' career-night was highlighted by a 4-for-6 shooting performance from beyond-the-arc. The senior also finished a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and added a pair of blocks.
- Senior forward Malcolm McLeod (Teaneck, N.J./DePaul Catholic) recorded 15 tallies and added six rebounds and three assists.
UP NEXT:
- The Pioneers celebrate Senior Day Wednesday, Feb. 19, when they host The College of New Jersey at 8:00 p.m.
