WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (9-16, 5-13 NJAC) closed out its regular season with an 87-76 Senior Day setback to New Jersey Athletic Conference frontrunner The College of New Jersey (17-8, 14-4 NJAC) Feb. 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With TCNJ ahead 36-18 with 7:07 left in the opening half, WP used a 16-3 run to make it a five-point contest (39-34) with just over three minute left. The Lions responded by orchestrating a 14-5 burst of their own and held a 14-point lead at intermission, 53-39.
  • Following the break, William Paterson outscored TCNJ 18-6 during a span of 7+ minutes and trailed by two, 59-57 with 12:28 left on the clock. After a trio of three-pointers by the Lions pushed the lead back to double-digits (73-60, 8:02), consecutive baskets by seniors Hershell Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Timber Creek) and Sean Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) made it a nine-point contest (73-64). However, WP would get no closer as TCNJ pulled away late for the 87-76 victory.
