Men’s Basketball Topped by St. Joseph’s-Long Island

Golden Eagles best Pioneers 63-52

WAYNE, N.J. – Hampered by shooting struggles all afternoon, William Paterson men's basketball (6-6) completed its season non-conference slate with a 63-52 home setback to St. Joseph's-Long Island (5-4) Jan. 4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP shot just 30.0% (9-30), including 0-7 from three-point range, in the opening 20 minutes as St. Joseph's opened an eight-point edge at the break, 29-21.
  • The Pioneers fought back to make it a two-possession game (54-50) with just over five minutes remaining, but the Golden Eagles closed on a 9-2 run to come away with the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior guard Sammy Asani (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) enjoyed his best showing of the season, finishing with seven points, three steals and three assists in 17 minutes of action.
  • Senior Anthony Uribe (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Catholic) scored 10 to lead the Pioneers, and classmate Henry Voorhees (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) chipped in eight.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson resumes New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a road test against Rowan Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 8:00 p.m.
