Volleyball Sweeps Past Maritime, 3-0

Pioneer offense too much for the Privateers

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior outside hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) led all players with 15 kills and sophomore middle hitter Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) totaled 10 as William Paterson volleyball (5-4) swept past Maritime (2-8) 25-9, 25-22, 25-12 in non-conference action Sept. 19.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holding onto a slim 7-5 edge in the opening set, WP outscored the Privateers 18-4 the rest of the way for the 25-9 triumph. After a tightly-contested 25-22 victory in the second frame, the Pioneers dominated the third, taking the set and the match 25-12.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Toman and O'Shea finished with double-digit kills, while freshman Alexa Houston (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) and classmate Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) added nine and six, respectively.
  • Sophomore Camryn Norman (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) posted her third double-figure dig performance of the season, tallying a team-best 13, followed by senior Barbara Colizza's (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) 10.
  • Sophomore setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) enjoyed a spectacular all-around performance, posting 34 assists, six digs and four aces.
  • WP moved to 6-0 all-time against Maritime.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson concludes its homestand Saturday, Sept. 21, with a non-conference tri-match against Lehman and King's College (N.Y.) starting at 11:00 a.m.
