Volleyball's Rally Falls Just Short Against Farmingdale State

Pioneers drop 3-2 decision to visiting Rams

WAYNE, N.J. – Trailing 2-0, William Paterson volleyball (4-4) rallied to force a fifth set before falling to non-conference foe Farmingdale State (6-4), 3-2, Sept. 17.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After dropping the opening two frames, and trailing 18-16 in the third, the Pioneers scored five straight points en route to a 25-21 decision. In the fourth, WP raced out a 4-0 lead and never trailed, ultimately taking the set, 25-19. Both team traded points throughout the fifth as neither side was able to gain an edge. However, the Rams scored the final two points to take the set, and the match, 15-12.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) put down a team-high 21 kills with just three errors on 46 swings (.391), and sophomore Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) posted double-digit kills for the second consecutive match, finishing with 14.
  • Defensively, sophomore Kyla Sebello (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) concluded her night with a career-best 20 digs, while classmate Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) tallied 17 digs and a season-high 50 assists and three service aces.
  • Freshman Alexa Houston (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) finished just short of a double-double, totaling 14 digs and nine kills.
  • Junior Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) (15), senior Barbara Colizza (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) (14) and sophomore Camryn Norman (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) (10) all registered double-digit defensive scoops.
  • At the net, freshman Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) notched five blocks to go along with five kills.
