Volleyball Returns to its Winning Ways Following a 3-1 Home Victory Against Old Westbury

WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman outside hitter Alexa Houston (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) collected her first career double-double and senior outside hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) posted a team-high 17 kills as William Paterson (4-3) snapped a two-game skid with a 3-1 home victory over Old Westbury (1-2) Sept. 14
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers hit .360 (11 kills, two errors, 25 attempts) for a quick first-set win. After the Panthers took game two, 25-23, WP responded with back-to-back 25-18 triumphs in the third and fourth frames for its first home win of the season.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Houston tallied a team-high 19 digs to go along with 10 kills, and junior Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) registered 14 defensive scoops and five service aces.
  • Toman's 17 kills came on just 30 swings (.500 hit percentage), while sophomore middle blocker Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) set a new personal-best with 16 kills.
  • Sophomore setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) notched 42 assists, a season high.
  • WP improves to 11-1 all-time against Old Westbury.
