Volleyball Bested By Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1, in Home Opener

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson volleyball (3-2) saws its comeback against Mount Saint Vincent (3-0) fall short, 3-1, during the Pioneer's home opener Sept. 10
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After taking the opening set 25-22, the Dolphins used 9-0 run in the middle of the second stanza to take the frame 25-19.
  • In the third, WP hit .346 (14 kills, five errors, 26 attempts) to come away with a 25-19 victory, however, Mount Saint Vincent held off the Pioneers in the fourth, 25-22, to take the match.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior outside hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) notched her fourth double-digit kill performance of the season, tallying 17, while sophomore middle hitter Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) finished with nine.
  • Defensively, freshman outside hitter Alexa Houston (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) totaled a team-best 17 digs to go along with five kills and a pair of aces.
  • Senior libero Barbara Colizza (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) and junior defensive specialist Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) collected 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
  • Sophomore setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) posted a double-double of 33 assists and 13 digs.
  • Prior to the match, William Paterson President, Dr. Richard Helldobler, presented head coach Sandy Ferrarella with a commemorative ball celebrating her recent accomplishment of winning 700 career games.
