Volleyball wins 13th Consecutive Season Opener with 3-0 Victory at St. Joseph’s –Brooklyn

Toman, Volavka Pace Pioneers To Victory

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Senior Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) led all players with 13 kills as the William Paterson volleyball team (1-0) won its 13th consecutive season opener with a 25-19, 25-10, 25-16 victory at St. Joseph's –Brooklyn (0-1) Aug. 31.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following a tightly-contested first-set win, WP hit .333 (14 kills, one error, 39 attempts) for a 25-10 triumph in the second frame. The Pioneers closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the third, forcing the Bears into seven hitting errors.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Toman notched 13 kills on 27 swings, good for a .407 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) opened her college career by posting nine kills, and sophomore Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) put down eight.
  • Sophomore Camryn Norman (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) tied a team-high with 17 digs, while freshman Alexa Houston (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) added 14 to go along with six kills.
  • Sophomore setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) collected 33 assists and 17 digs for her first collegiate double-double.
  • The Pioneers are 6-2 all-time against the Bears.
