Pioneers win seven out of nine in Florida

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – William Paterson baseball (9-2) had four player with multi-hit efforts, while sophomore righty Jordan Manne (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) allowed just one earned run in 6.2 innings of work, as the Pioneers capped off an impressive Spring Break trip with an 8-6 victory over Beloit at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore center fielder Steven DiGirolamo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) doubled in sophomore shortstop Greg Cuevas (West New York, N.J./St. Mary (Rutherford)), and sophomore catcher Steve Yelin (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) singled in junior second baseman Matt Ferrara (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and DiGirolamo for a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.
  • After the Buccaneers tied the score during their next at-bat, WP responded with a pair of fourth-inning scores, as Cuevas singled home sophomore first baseman Carson Weis (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional), while DiGirolamo's sac fly plated junior third baseman Dan Abate (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills).
  • Senior designated hitter Shane Adams (Cape May, N.J./Cape May Tech) doubled home Ferrara, Weis singled in Adams and Abate added an RBI-triple in the fifth to make it an 8-3 contest.
