Jykayla Elting (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) led all players with 12 rebounds as William Paterson women's basketball (3-5, 2-1 NJAC) secured its second conference win of the week by downing Rutgers-Camden (5-3, 0-3 NJAC), 54-49, Dec. 7
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Trailing 18-14 after the first quarter, WP owned the second stanza, forcing nine Rutgers-Camden turnovers and outscoring the Scarlet Raptors 14-0 to take a 28-18 advantage into the locker room.
- Following intermission, Rutgers-Camden began to slowly chip away at William Paterson's advantage and made it a one-possession game (47-45) with 6:19 remaining. Senior guard Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) responded with a deep three from the left side, and Bride added a pair of free throws push the lead to seven. The Scarlet Raptors would attempt to rally, but the Pioneers knocked down two free throws late to came away with the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- McBride finished 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe to go along with eight boards.
- Junior Vianca Soriano (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) dished-out a team-best four assists, while senior Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and sophomore Danica DeFrank (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) shared top honors with three steals apiece.
