Women’s Basketball Overwhelms Rutgers-Newark, 79-48

Pioneers claim third straight conference win

WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman guard Madison Dulude (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored a game-high 19 points to lead four Pioneers scored in double digits as William Paterson women's basketball (4-5, 3-1 NJAC) registered a convincing 79-48 conference home win over Rutgers-Newark (1-7, 0-4 NJAC) Dec. 11.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After spotting Rutgers-Newark an early 5-0 edge, William Paterson used a 19-2 run to build a double-digit advantage and led 25-15 after 10 minutes. The Pioneers continued their offensive momentum in the second, outscoring the Scarlet Raiders 17-7 and held a 20-point cushion into the break, 42-22.
  • Following intermission, it was all Pioneers as WP outscored Rutgers-Newark 37-26 over the final 20 minutes to run away with the contest, 79-48.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Dulude finished 8-of-13 (.615) from the field, and sophomore forward Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) knocked down 80.0% (4-5) of her attempts to add 10 tallies.
  • Freshman guard Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) filled the stat sheet by posting eight points, five assists and a team-high nine rebounds.
  • Senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) chipped in 11 points, while junior Vianca Soriano (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) added 10 and six boards.

  • WP travels to Stockton on Saturday, Dec. 14, for a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
