WAYNE, N.J. – Junior forward
Malcolm McLeod (Teaneck, N.J./Eastern Christian) scored a team-high 17 points to lead four Pioneers in double figures as William Paterson men's basketball (5-2, 2-1 NJAC) outscored Rutgers-Camden (3-4, 0-3 NJAC) 42-25 after intermission to come away with an 80-58 New Jersey Athletic Conference home win Dec. 7.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- WP raced out to an eight-point advantage, 27-19, but Rutgers-Camden answered back with a 10-0 run to move in front 29-27. The Pioneers would regain the lead after a 6-0 burst (33-29) and led 38-33 at the half.
- Holding a slim 48-42 edge midway through the second, WP outscored RUC 17-4 over a span of 6:54 to build a 19-point cushion (65-49, 8:49). The Scarlet Raptors would never get the game to single digits again as the Pioneers coasted to the 22-point win, 80-58.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior forward Nasir Fields (Winslow Twp., N.J./Winslow Twp.) scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to register his third double-double of the season.
- Junior guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) finished the afternoon with 16 tallies, while senior Sean Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) added 15 points.
- Senior guard Anthony Uribe (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Catholic) contributed seven assists and a pair of steals, and senior forward Henry Voorhees (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) recorded his fifth game of the year with multiple blocks.
- William Paterson struggles from three-pointer range (3-20, 15%), but owned the paint outscoring Rutgers-Camden down low 54-30.
- The Pioneers also held large margins in fastbreak points (22-8) and bench scoring (18-8).
