Men's Basketball Downed by DeSales, 62-60

Mignone, McLeod Named to All-Tournament Team

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior Malcolm McLeod (Teaneck, N.J./Eastern Christian) led all scorers with 16 points and classmate Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) added 15 and eight steals, but William Paterson men's basketball (6-5) fell to host DeSales (6-4), 62-60, in the championship round of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament Dec. 29.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers capitalized on 13 Bulldog turnovers throughout the entire first half, turning the DeSales miscues in 14 points. With WP holding onto a slim 22-20 edge with under four minutes left in the opening frame, a trio of trifectas allowed the Black and Orange to build a nine-point lead before settling on a 31-24 advantage at intermission.
  • Trailing by 12 three minutes into the second stanza, DeSales used 23-7 run that span 9:24 to take a four-point lead (49-45, 8:16). The Pioneers fought back to tie the game at 56-56, but the Bulldogs hit a pair of three-pointers down the stretch to come away with the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • McLeod's game-high 16 tallies came on 6-of-10 shooting, and senior Sean Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) added 13 points.
  • Senior Anthony Uribe (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Catholic) grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds to go along with nine points.
  • Mignone and McLeod were both named to the all-tournament team following the conclusion of today's contest.
