Rosa, McBride Send Women’s Basketball Past Stockton in Overtime, 60-57

Pioneers down Ospreys for fourth straight NJAC win

GALLOWAY, N.J. – Freshman Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) scored a season-best 19 points to lead all players and classmate Allison McBride (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) registered her first collegiate double-double as William Paterson women's basketball (5-5, 4-1 NJAC) closed out 2019 with a 60-57 overtime win at Stockton (4-5, 2-3) Dec. 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • William Paterson struggled in the first half, shooting just 6-of-23 (.261) from the field and committing 15 turnovers as Stockton took a 26-20 edge at the break.
  • The Pioneer offensive began to click after intermission as WP outscored Stockton 21-12 in the third and took a slight 41-38 lead into the fourth.
  • Deadlocked at 50-50, Rosa knocked down a three-pointer with three seconds left, but a late foul and a trio of Osprey free throws with no time remaining sent the game into overtime.
  • In the extra frame, William Paterson did not allow a field goal (0-6), limiting Stockton to just four free throws to come away with the 60-57 triumph.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • McBride finished with 16 points on 7-of-10 (.700) shooting and added a season-high 10 rebounds.
  • Rosa scored 16 of her 19 tallied after the half, and sophomore guard Danica DeFrank (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) matched her season-high with four steals while adding three assists.
