WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman guard
Madison Dulude (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) registered her first collegiate double-double, but William Paterson women's basketball (1-4, 0-1 NJAC) dropped its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener to Montclair State (3-2, 1-0 NJAC), 60-55, Nov. 26
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Trailing 7-2, WP outscored Montclair State 17-2 over a span of 5:32 to gain a 19-9 edge and led 19-13 after 10 minutes. In the second, the Red Hawks held the Pioneers to .111 (2-18) shooting from the field to take slim 26-25 advantage into halftime.
- Following a back-and-forth third quarter, WP opened a six-point lead (52-46, 6:11), but MSU battled back and moved ahead, 57-54, with under a minute remaining. The Pioneers kept it a one-possession game, but the Red Hawks iced the game on the free throw line to come away with the conference victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Dulude led all scorers with 26 points to go along with a team-best 10 rebounds and two steals.
- Senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) added nine points, five assists and four steals, while junior Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) chipped in nine tallies.
