Football Drops Decision at Kean

Pioneers fall to Cougars 37-0

UNION, N.J. – William Paterson football (2-6, 0-5 NJAC) suffered a 37-0 loss at Kean (3-5, 2-3 NJAC) Nov. 2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A one-yard rush by quarterback Tyrae Taylor gave Kean a 7-0 lead at the 6:16 mark of the opening quarter.
  • Logan Matthews converted on a 23-yard field goal, DeShawn Reed returned a fumble six yard and Taylor completed a 36-yard touchdown pass as the Cougars held a 23-0 edge at halftime.
  • Jason Giresi added a one-yard run in the third quarter (30-0, 12:24), and Jessey Asare finished the scoring with a fourth-quarter 15-yard carry (37-0, 8:16).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior linebacker Andrew Anthony (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) recorded his fourth double-digit tackles total of the season with 10. Junior linebacker Sean Maldonato (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland Regional) ended with eight tackles, while sophomore defensive end Chozen Davis (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) and freshman linebacker Yubir Rojas-Herrera (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) both established new season highs with seven stops each. Senior cornerback Hassan Williams (Roselle, N.J./Carteret) added a pass breakup and an interception, his second in as many games.
  • Freshman quarterback George Crespo (Bronx, N.Y./Orange) was 8-for-21 for 90 yards and an interception.
  • Junior tight end William Frese (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) caught two passes for a career-best 58 yards.
