Volleyball Sweeps New Jersey City to Register First Conference Win of The Season

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson volleyball (8-7, 1-3 NJAC) posted a sweep of New Jersey City (5-11, 0-5 NJAC) to register its first New Jersey Athletic Conference win of the season Oct. 8.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After winning the opening set 25-17, William Paterson hit a match-high .370 (13 kills, three errors, 27 attempts) to take the second frame, 25-15. Holding onto a slight 9-8 edge in the third, the Pioneers used a 8-2 run to pull away before closing out the Gothic Knights, 25-18.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior outside hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) led all players with 13 kills, sophomore middle hitter Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) and freshman outside hitter Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) added seven each, and freshman middle hitter Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) put down six.
  • Burrough tallied a season-high 13 digs, while senior libero Barbara Colizza (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) collected 12 defensive scoops.
  • Sophomore setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) put together an impressive all-around performance by totaling 32 assists, nine digs and three aces.
