Volleyball Sweeps Doubleheader vs. Cedar Crest and John Jay

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (12-1, 1-1 NJAC) closed out an impressive week with a pair of five-set victories over Cedar Crest (7-3) and John Jay (3-5) on Sept. 22.  

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. CEDAR CREST:
  • Junior outside hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) hit for a season-high 23 kills. Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) added 10 kills, followed by Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) with eight.
  • Senior setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) posted her second 40+ assist performance of the week – recording 45 to go along with a team-best 17 digs.
  • Barbara Colizza (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) notched 14 digs, while Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) and Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) controlled the net, tallying four and three blocks, respectively.
  • Nicole Hill and Lindsey Davis both contributed 18 kills for cedar Crest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. JOHN JAY:
  • Defensively, Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) led the Pioneers with 16 digs, followed by Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) with 12 and Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) added 11.
  • Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) led all player with 18 kills, while Griffith recorded 15 while hitting .500 for the match.
  • Caruso completed her double-double by dishing out 37 assists, and Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) added eight- a personal best.
  • Mballou Berete led a trio of Bloodhounds with double-digit kills, hitting 17 over the five sets.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The victory pushes WP all-time record vs. Cedar Crest to 8-1.
  • William Paterson has never lost to John Jay, holding a 13-0 lead in the series.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson resumes NJAC play against Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
