WP Volleyball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Farmingdale and Keystone, Moves to 9-0

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Following their second tri-match sweep in two weeks, the William Paterson volleyball team remained perfect on the season, improving to 9-0 with victories over Farmingdale State (3-9) and Keystone College (2-7) on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. FARMINGDALE STATE:
  • Senior Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) led the offense with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) hit .474 with 10 kills. Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) added 29 assists.
  • Defensively, Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) produced 10 digs and 3 blocks.
  • Farmingdale State struggled on the attack all match, hitting just .023 with 16 errors. The Pioneers fared much better, hitting .333 with 37 kills and 12 service aces.
  • Kate Flamio led the Rams with six kills.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. KEYSTONE:
  • Caruso produced 18 while running the offense and recorded a match-high 19 digs. Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) and Barbara Colizza (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) also recorded double digit defensive scoops, adding 15 and 14, respectively.
  • Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) led the attack with nine kills, followed by Toman's six kills and seven from O'Shea.
  • At the net, Phillips led all players with three blocks.
  • The Giants were paced by Victoria Homfeld's 12 kills.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The victory over Farmingdale State evens the all-time series at 4-4.
  • Saturday was the first ever meeting between William Paterson and Keystone.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson starts conference play Tuesday, Sept. 18, against Kean at 7:00 p.m.
