Volleyball Has Winning Streak Snapped vs. Kean, 3-0

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (9-1, 0-1 NJAC) gave defending conference champion Kean (9-3, 2-0 NJAC) all they could handle before dropping its NJAC opener 3-0 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a back-and-forth beginning to open the match, Kean capitalized off some costly Pioneer errors to gain a 21-15 advantage. Consecutive kills by Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) and Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) closed the gap, but the Cougars took the last four points and the first set, 25-17.
  • With the second set tied 4-4, William Paterson reeled off five-straight points, highlighted by Jamie O'Shea's (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) kill. Facing set point, WP used a pair of Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) kills to make the score 24-23 before Kean took the set 25-23.
  • Trailing 15-12 in the third, three kills, two by Toman and another by O'Shea, gave the Pioneers the lead. Lembo's service ace pushed Kean to set point, however, the defending NJAC champion Cougars rallied off four points to claim the set and the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Toman hit for a match-high 12 kills on 31 attempts, good for a .323 hitting percentage. Lembo tallied 10 kills and Griffith added seven. Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) contributed 27 assists.
  • Griffith and Lembo shared top honors with 16 digs apiece, while O'Shea collected 10 – her third straight match registering double-digit defensive scoops. At the net, Toman notched three blocks.
  • Kean was led by Zoe Strozewski's 13 kills.
