Faulkner Establishes New Tackles Records but Football Falls on Senior Day, 24-0

WAYNE, N.J. – Linebacker Charles Faulkner (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) finished his career atop two Pioneer tackles charts but the William Paterson football team (0-10, 0-9 NJAC) saw its 2018 season come to a close with a 24-0 Senior Day loss against Montclair State (8-2, 7-2 NJAC) Nov. 10.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Hunter Daly connected on field goals of 48 (3-0, 7:48, first) and 38 (6-0, 13:28, second) yards, and freshman linebacker Brennan Ray returned a fumble 63 yards for a touchdown (5:18, second), to give the Red Hawks a 13-0 halftime lead.
  • Daly connected again, this time from 27 yards, for a 16-0 edge 10 seconds into the final period.
  • A one-yard Ralph McLean carry finished the scoring with 7:08 remaining in the contest (24-0).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior linebacker Charles Faulkner (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) made a game-high 11 tackles, finishing his career as the Pioneers' leader in total tackles (362) and assisted tackles (227).
  • Junior quarterback Mike Yarosz (Montague, N.J./High Point Regional) was 13-for-23 for 172 yards.
  • Sophomore running back Marcel Mason (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) rushed 16 times for 38 yards, and senior Kyle Fanning (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) caught five passes for 30 yards.
  • Freshman linebacker Mahkye Boswell (Orange, N.J./Orange) and senior defensive back Matt Olivo (Clark, N.J./St. Joseph's Metuchen) each tallied seven stops.
  • Sophomore quarterback Ja'Quill Burch finished 14-for-24 for 98 yards and one interception for MSU, and senior Willie Barr carried 19 times for 99 yards. Junior Brian Kowalczyk caught four passes for 45 yards.
  • Senior linebacker Mauro Altamura paced the Red Hawks with eight tackles (3.5 TFL).
  • Prior to the game, WP honored its nine seniors – offensive lineman Kevin Davis (Nutley, N.J./Nutley), Fanning, Faulkner, offensive lineman Mikal Gamble (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth), defensive back Jordan Hovington (Lindenwold, N.J./Eastern Regional), linebacker Jonathan Jackson (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), wide receiver Dan Lordi (Edison, N.J./Edison), Olivo and defensive lineman Dan Tomzick (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional).
