Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's volleyball team (16-2, 3-2 NJAC) saw its seven-match winning streak snapped following a 3-1 defeat to Rutgers-Newark (13-7, 3-2 NJAC) on Oct. 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) struck for two quick kills as WP raced out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set. Three more kills, two by Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) and another by Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick), increased the lead to 15-5, as the Pioneers took the set going away, 25-8.
  • With the second set tied at 21-21, three service aces gave the Scarlet Raider set point, and Cassie Luken's kill evened  the match at 1-1. Rutgers-Newark would carry momentum into the third set, claiming a 25-21 decision.
  • The back-and-forth fourth frame was deadlocked at 23-23 before a Scarlet Raiders kill, coupled with a WP hitting error, gave the visitors the game and the match.
