MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (16-3, 3-3 NJAC) dropped it first road contest of the season, a 3-1 decision to Montclair State (13-6, 4-3 NJAC) on Oct. 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Red Hawks raced out to a commanding 9-0 lead in the opening frame before a kill from Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) got the Pioneers on the board. Three consecutive WP points, punctuated by an Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) kill, cut the deficit to 15-9. The visitors, however, would get no closer, dropping the set 25-15.
• After MSU took the second stanza 25-17, back-to-back blocks by Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) gave William Paterson a 10-5 third set lead, forcing Montclair State into a timeout. Coming out of the break, the Pioneer went on a 12-0 run before Toman's kill from Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) capped off the 25-10 victory.
• MSU would regroup and take the fourth set 25-14.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) and Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) tied for top honors with 10 kills apiece, while Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) tallied eight.
• Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) collected a team-high 17 digs, and Camryn Norman (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) added 11.
