Volleyball Improves to 16-1 Following a Pair of Sweeps on Saturday

QUEENS, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (16-1, 3-1 NJAC) finished its week with a pair of 3-0 victories over York College (0-13) and Medgar Evers (2-14) on Oct. 6.  

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. YORK:
  • Freshman Jamie O'Shea (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) led all players with nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage.
  • Classmate Kat Alleva (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) made the most of her extended playing time, registering a match-high 14 assists. At the service line, Alleva notched five aces, followed by Dakota Apicella's (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) four.
  • Defensively, Barbara Colizza (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) collected seven digs, while the Pioneers forced 44 Cardinal errors and limited York to a -.154 attack percentage for the match.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MEDGAR EVERS:
  • Senior Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) tallied 22 assists and eight digs.
  • Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) paced the Pioneer attack with 10 kills, followed by O'Shea and Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) with nine and five, respectively.
  • WP hit .471 for the match, while limiting the Cougars to -.197
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • WP moves to 3-0 all-time against Medgar Evers.
  • William Paterson has never lost to York, holding a 14-0 lead in the series.

  • William Paterson returns home for a conference showdown against Rutgers-Newark on Oct. 9.
