Griffith Surpasses 1,000 Career Digs as Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior middle hitter Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) recorded her 1,000th career dig as the William Paterson volleyball team (18-3, 3-3 NJAC) earned a pair of 3-0 sweeps against the College of Staten Island (10-12) and Mount Saint Mary College (13-12) on Oct. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. STATEN ISLAND:
  • WP was led by Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) with 15 kills, followed by Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) with nine. Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) paced the offense with 34 assists.
  • Defensively, Camryn Norman (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) tallied 10 digs, while Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) added nine.
  • As a team, the Pioneers registered 42 kills and a .344 hitting percentage.
  • Jay-La Guy's 10 kills led the Dolphins.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MOUNT SAINT MARY:
  • Toman again led the team with 11 kills, while Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) joined her in double-figures, chipping in 10.
  • Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) was a force on defense, collecting a team-high 17 dig and blocking five shots. Classmate Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) matched Griffith's output by notching five blocks.
  • Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) each tallied nine defensive scoops for WP.
  • The Knight were paced by Alex Klesin's 14 kills.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Griffith is just the 8th Pioneer to record 1,000 career digs.
  • The Pioneers have never lost to Staten Island, holding an 18-0 all-time advantage.
  • WP leads the all-time series against Mount Saint Mary 3-2.
