WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson tennis team (0-5, 0-4 NJAC) put together a strong performance against Ramapo (4-1, 3-1 NJAC), but came up short to the Roadrunners 8-1 in conference play Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Arrion Berry (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Twp.) earned a win at fifth singles for the Pioneers due to a retirement from the Roadrunner's Christine Bednarz in the second set. After dropping the opening set 6-0, sophomore Briya Smallwood (Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) fought hard in set two, dropping the set 6-4 at third singles. Sophomore Sam Uribe (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) made her season debut for the Pioneers Wednesday, and the duo of Uribe and Smallwood came up just short in third doubles, 8-5.

The Pioneers return to action September 27 when they host Kean University in league play beginning at 5:30 p.m.
