PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The William Paterson University tennis team (0-1) fell to Saint Joseph's (L.I.) (1-0) in their season opener 8-1 Saturday at the Saint Joseph's Outdoor Field Complex.

Sophomore Kaworu Ishikawa (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) earned a first singles win, defeating Amanda Post (7-6, 6-4). Sophomore Briya Smallwood (Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) was edged out in the third singles match (6-2, 6-4) and classmate Julienn Guzman (Jersey City, N.J./Liberty) also battled hard in fourth singles, falling 6-4, 6-2. 

The Pioneers return to action next Saturday when they host Stockton University in an NJAC matchup beginning at 1:00 p.m.
