WAYNE, N.J. – Women's soccer (3-3, 0-1 NJAC) opened up New Jersey Athletic Conference action Sept. 16, suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of No. 5 The College of New Jersey (5-0, 1-0 NJAC).
The Lions got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute when senior forward Christine Levering delivered a cross from the left wing that senior midfielder Kayla Bertolino used to score from the opposite wing, giving TCNJ a 1-0 edge.
Senior midfielder Elizabeth Thoresen followed up a with an unassisted goal in the 18th minute, lifting a shot from 20 yards out that hit the underside of the crossbar but had enough forward momentum to carry into the net, putting the Lions ahead 2-0.
TCNJ made it 3-0 in the 29th minute on a score from senior midfielder Hannah Richman, scoring from the left side of the box after receiving a pass from sophomore midfielder Despina Lianidis.

The Lions completed their scoring when a loose ball in the box eventually found the foot of freshman midfielder Caroline Rubin, who scored from just two yards off the goal line, giving the Lions the 4-0 lead in the 84th minute.
WP will return to non-conference competition when it hosts St. Joseph's – Long Island Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
