EWING, N.J. – The Pioneers (6-1, 1-0 NJAC) continued their torrid play Saturday afternoon, extending their current win streak to six games with a 3-0 blanking of The College of New Jersey (4-3, 0-1 NJAC) Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers have been outstanding on both sides of the ball during their current six-game stretch, outscoring opponents 22-2. The defensive unit has not conceded a goal in 573:56 seconds minutes of action, spanning over five games.
Sophomore
Cameron Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./Saint John Vianney) scored twice for William Paterson Saturday, while junior
Charlie Lizardo (Newark, N.J./East Side) added one goal. Sophomore keeper
Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) needed five saves to earn the win, improving to 5-0 on the year with two shutouts.
It took just 65 seconds for the Pioneers to break through, setting the tone early when Lizardo headed in a ball from senior
JP Gonzales (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) inside the right post for his first career goal. Just three minutes later the Pioneers struck again when freshman
Jordan Rosenblum (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) found Allen with a cross right in front of the goal mouth for the sophomore's first tally of the afternoon. Allen struck again in the 38th minute, scoring inside the left post for his fourth goal of the year to put William Paterson up 3-0 and put the game out of reach for good.
The Pioneers finished with a 20-15 advantage in shots, 9-5 in shots on target. Despite putting four shots on goal in the second half, Lions keeper Michael Kayal turned each one away and the Pioneers carried the 3-0 advantage into the final whistle to start conference play with a win.
William Paterson returns to action Wednesday when they host Brooklyn in the first game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader at Pioneer Soccer Park, with kick off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
