Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – Women's volleyball (4-2) used a total team effort Thursday evening to blow past Purchase College (0-3) 3-0 Thursday evening inside the William Paterson Recreation Center.

All 15 players on the roster saw time on the court, and nine different players recorded a kill for the Pioneers, whose offensive attack controlled the tempo of the match throughout its entirety Thursday. Junior Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) led the charge with a season-high ten kills and 11 digs for her first double-double of the season. Junior Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) added nine kills of her own, also a new season-high. Freshman Aime Sanchez (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) tallied her first kill of her collegiate career, and fellow classmate Amy Mundhenk (Westwood, N.J./Westwood Regional) also notched her first collegiate point with a service ace to close out the match in the third set.

The match started with a bang for William Paterson, with the Pioneers scoring 13 of the first 14 points to take a commanding lead early on. After a Panther point to make it 20-7, William Paterson rallied off five consecutive points behind kills from Lembo and freshman Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) and a service ace by senior Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) to take set one 25-7. It was more of the same for William Paterson the rest of the way, using a 10-0 run in the second set to pull away and took 16 of the final 20 points of the match to improve to 4-2 on the year and snap a two-game skid.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday for their first tri-match of the season on the road at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. William Paterson will face off against the host Bloodhounds at 11:00 a.m. before taking on Wesley College at 1:00 p.m.
