Women’s Soccer Clipped at Wilkes, 1-0

Loss Snaps Three-Match Winning Streak

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.  – The William Paterson women's soccer team looked to take a four-match winning streak into New Jersey Athletic Conference play this weekend, but a Wilkes goal in the 46th minute thwarted those hopes as the Pioneers (3-2) fell to the Colonels (3-0-1), 1-0.

Locked at a 0-0 stalemate just after halftime, Wilkes senior forward Micaela Oliverio found the back of the net for her first goal of the season and the lone goal of the match, giving the Colonels the decisive 1-0 advantage.

WP senior midfielder Lauren McHugh (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) tested junior goalkeeper Courtney Stanley with a shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the Pioneers couldn't capitalize the rest of the way, putting up five shots on the night.

Senior goalkeeper Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made six saves for the Pioneers.

Despite being shut out, the Pioneers had scored 13 goals across their last three games, outscoring opponents 13-2 during its three-match winning streak.

Women's soccer opens up New Jersey Athletic Conference play when it hosts No. 5 The College of New Jersey Saturday, Sept. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
