WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (13-10, 8-8 NJAC) suffered a 50-37 home loss against The College of New Jersey (11-11, 8-8 NJAC) Feb. 8.
With two regular-season games remaining, William Paterson is tied for fifth in the league standings. The top six qualify for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament that begins Feb. 18.
Junior forward
Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) collected eight points, 11 rebounds and a career-high five blocked shots. Freshman guard
Gabby Harris (South River, N.J./South River) had seven tallies and six boards, while sophomore guard
Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) chipped in six points and seven rebounds.
The Lions held a slim 12-10 lead after the first period, but 2-for-19 (.105) shooting by the Pioneers during the second quarter allowed TCNJ to build a 25-14 halftime lead. WP ended the third period with an 11-4 run to get within four at 33-29, and trailed by just one at 35-34 with 7:34 left, but the Lions responded by scoring 13 of the next 14 points to take control at 48-35 with 4:16 remaining.
Junior forward Nikki Schott led TCNJ with 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
William Paterson will compete at Rutgers-Camden Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1:00 p.m.
