Women’s Basketball Starts NJAC Tournament Title Pursuit Saturday at Rowan

Fifth-Seeded Pioneers, Fourth-Seeded Profs to Meet at 1:00 p.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – Fifth-seeded William Paterson (14-11, 9-9 NJAC) will play at fourth-seeded Rowan (17-8, 11-7 NJAC) in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Basketball Tournament Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1:00 p.m. Live statisticslive audio and live video will be available.
 
Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children, students and senior citizens. WP students with valid ID will be admitted for free.
 
The winner will advance to play at top-seeded Montclair State (23-2, 16-2 NJAC) Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinal round. In the other first-round game Feb. 18, third-seeded Stockton (17-8, 12-6 NJAC) will host sixth-seeded Rutgers-Newark (10-15, 8-10 NJAC) at 2:00 p.m. The winner will play at second-seeded Kean (16-9, 13-5 NJAC) Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game Saturday, Feb. 25, at a time to be determined.
 
The Pioneers are coming off a 77-63 home victory Feb. 15 against Kean. Earlier this season, WP lost 83-70 at Rowan Dec. 3, and earned a 90-81 home victory against the Profs Jan. 21.
 
The Jan. 2 and Jan. 23 NJAC Rookie of the Week, freshman guard Gabby Harris (South River, N.J./South River) is contributing a team-high 14.4 points per game. Junior forward Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) is averaging 8.5 tallies and a team-best 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per contest, while sophomore guard Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) is posting 9.0 points and team highs of 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
  
William Paterson has won three NJAC Tournament titles, including two of the last six (1993, 2011, 2012), and is making its 25th tourney appearance (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
 
WP was 15-12 overall and 10-8 in conference play a year ago, reaching the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament.
