Badmos Drops Career-High 31 Points in Men's Basketball's 83-75 Victory at York

JAMAICA, N.Y. – Senior guard Dapo Badmos (Toronto, Canada/The Kiski School) dropped a career-high 31 points to lead the William Paterson men's basketball team (5-6) to an 83-75 victory at York – N.Y. (3-7) Dec. 18.

The Canadian continued his breakout season for the Pioneers, scoring 31 points on 10-of-15 (.667) shooting, including a 4-for-5 (.800) effort from beyond the arc. Badmos led four WP players in double figures, including classmates George Sapp (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) and Richy Espinal (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while sophomore Sean Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) chipped in 10. The Cardinal lineup also featured four players in double figures, paced by an 18-point night by Edwin Sainvil.

Both teams shot well from the floor, with the Pioneers shooting 50 (27-54) percent while York yielded a 43 (27-63) percent clip. The WP bench had a 27-22 edge in points, while York held a slight advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Pioneers, 36-33.

Trailing by three points at the half (38-35), the Orange and Black netted the first six points of the second stanza to take a brief 41-38 lead. After going back and forth over the next few minutes, the Cardinals took their final lead (52-51) on a Sainvil layup at the 10:25 mark of the period. A 10-point WP spark that included four points from sophomore Henry Voorhees (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) put York on its heels with just under eight minutes remaining, and the home team could not recover. York cut the deficit to four points multiple times, the last coming with 16 seconds remaining, but freshman Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) and Smith each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to seal the victory for the Pioneers.

William Paterson will now have 11 days off before returning to action on Friday, Dec. 29, when the team travels to Baruch for a non-conference bout at 4:00 p.m.
