POMONA, N.J. - The William Paterson volleyball team (9-6, 1-4 NJAC) could not keep pace with Stockton University (12-6, 3-2 NJAC) on the road Tuesday evening, falling to the Ospreys 3-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.
Sophomore Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) led the pioneers offensively with seven kills in the match while junior Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) added five kills and two aces.
After Toman made it 7-5 with a kill in the opening stanza, the Ospreys took control with six of the next seven points to take a 13-6 advantage. Stockton stretched the lead to as many as ten points at 22-12 before closing out the Pioneers 25-16.
It was all Stockton in set number two, taking the first 21 points of the frame. After back-to-back kills by Griffith, the Ospreys used three kills of their own to take the set 25-4.
WP started off the third set on the front foot, jumping out to a 6-2 lead but again the Osprey attack proved to have the answer, taking 12 of the ensuing 16 points to jump ahead 14-10. Stockton did not look back from there, eventually closing out the match with a 25-14 set win.
The Pioneers will look to get back on the winning track Thursday, October 5 when they host Farmingdale State in non-conference action beginning at 7:00 p.m.
