WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (16-9, 2-6 NJAC) could not solve Rowan (12-15, 4-4) Tuesday night, falling 3-0 on senior night in their final NJAC contest of the season.

It was a frustrating night for the Pioneers who could never build momentum in the loss. Sophomore
Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) led WP offensively with five kills while junior
Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) put down four of her own. Junior
Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) was a force at the net, rejecting five total Prof attacks, including three solo blocks.

The Pioneers got off to a strong start early, earning the early edge on three consecutive attack errors by Rowan to take a 7-6 lead. It was the last time that WP would lead in the first however, as Rowan pulled away late in the frame to take the opening stanza, 25-17. The trend continued from there as the Profs used an 8-2 run in the middle of the second frame to jump ahead 14-7 and never looked back, using a Pioneer attack error to close out the set, 25-20 and take a commanding lead, and used the momentum to close out the match in the third set with a 25-20 win.

WP honored their lone senior,
Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) before the match. The Springfield native recorded her 30th career match with 10 or more digs in her final home match, compiling 11 digs on the night.

With the loss the Pioneers were officially eliminated from NJAC postseason contention. The team will now turn its attention to the College of New Rochelle in their final matchup of the regular season on Thursday, October 26, with the opening serve slated for 7:00 p.m.
