FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – The William Paterson tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat to Baruch College in their penultimate matchup of the fall season Saturday afternoon at the U.S. National Tennis Center.

Sophomores
Briya Smallwood (Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) and
Sam Uribe (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) earned two set wins at third doubles but came up short against Elizabeth Mak and Altyn Shalina, 8-2. In the singles competition, sophomore
Kaworu Ishikawa (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) battled Grace Graham in first singles, but Graham was able to withstand Ishikawa for a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Freshman
Vanessa Chira (Lincoln Park, N.J./Passaic County Technical Institute) again put up a tough fight at sixth singles, but was also outlasted by Regina Avrutis 6-4, 6-4.

The Pioneers wrap up the season on Monday, October 16 when they travel to Farmingdale State for a 5:00 matchup with the Rams.
