WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson tennis team (0-7) took on the College of Staten Island (5-2) Tuesday afternoon, but were overcome by the Dolphins 7-2 in non-conference action.

Sophomore
Kaworu Ishikawa (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) earned her third win of the season at first singles, taking down Samantha Maizer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman
Vanessa Chira (Lincoln Park, N.J./Passaic County Technical Institute) also earned a win at sixth singles, clinching her first collegiate singles victory by outlasting Guetanie Romain 8-6 in a pro set due to rainfall.

The doubles competition featured close battles, as sophomore
Michele Boyle (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) and Chira fought hard against Viktoriya Volkova and Mariah Deguia, but ultimately came up short 8-4 at second doubles. In the final doubles match, sophomores
Briya Smallwood (Somerset, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) and
Sam Uribe (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) were narrowly edged out by Aziza Jurabaeva and Samantha Pillarella, 8-6.
