WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (7-4, 0-3 NJAC) was upended by visiting Rutgers-Camden (7-8, 2-1 NJAC), 3-0, Sept. 22.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 5-1 first-set lead, but the Scarlet Raptors scored five of the final seven points for a 25-22 victory. Rutgers-Camden turned a 7-7 tie into a 25-18 second-set win, and pulled away late for a closing 25-17 victory.
Sophomore outside hitter
Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) led WP with nine kills, adding eight digs. Sophomore setter
Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) collected 27 assists and nine digs, junior libero
Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) posted a team-high 10 digs, and freshman outside/middle hitter
Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had eight kills and eight digs.
Junior outside hitter Cortnee Wilkerson led all players with 12 kills, and freshman setter Caitlynn Marcano dished out 22 assists for the Scarlet Raptors. Senior libero Melanie Kaiser finished with 22 digs.
William Paterson will compete at New Jersey City Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:00 p.m.
