Video Highlights WAYNE, N.J. – Senior right fielder
Jimmy Kenny (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex Regional) hit for the cycle as the William Paterson baseball team (4-2) rolled to an 11-3 victory March 10 against Baruch (4-7). The game was called in the middle of the eighth inning due to darkness.
The Pioneers wasted no time, pushing across a run during the bottom of the first inning. Junior center fielder
Mike Abate (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) hit a leadoff single to right center, stole second, and two batters later crossed the plate when junior designated hitter
Eriq Colon (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) doubled into the right-field corner.
WP added two more scores in the second. Senior shortstop
Victor Sanchez (Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) led off with a base hit to right, stole second and scored when sophomore catcher
Jorge Solodkin (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) drilled a one-out single up the middle. Senior left fielder
Tyler Garguilo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) lined a two-strike pitch into right field and Abate drew a walk to load the bases, and after a popup, sophomore first baseman
Anthony Hoagland (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) was issued a base on balls to force across Solodkin.
A Luca Altamirano walk, a Michael McGroarty single and a two-out error allowed the Bearcats to break into the scoring column in the top of the third, but Kenny opened the home half of the same frame with a solo home run down the left-field line, making it a 4-1 margin.
Hoagland singled off the second baseman's glove and Kenny doubled him in to extend the lead to 5-1 in the fourth.
Baruch got one run back during the top of the sixth inning when sophomore catcher Donovan Hunt was issued a two-out walk, advanced to second via a wild pitch and scored when sophomore right fielder Edwin Saint-Hilaire dropped a base hit into shallow center field.
WP stretched it to a 6-2 margin in the home half of the sixth, as graduate student third baseman
K.C. Abel (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) singled through the left side, stole second and later scored when Kenny grounded an RBI-single up the middle.
Junior left fielder Dan Daley opened the seventh with a base hit through the left side and touched home three hitters later during a groundout double play.
Abel lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate Solodkin, Colon drilled a run-scoring single through the left side to drive in Garguilo, Kenny's triple to right-center field scored Hoagland and Colon, and freshman pinch hitter
Jon Bernotas (Andover, N.J./Newton) singled in Kenny for an 11-3 lead after seven innings.
Kenny was 4-for-5 with a double, triple, home run, five RBI and two runs scored. Garguilo was 4-for-4 and posted a run scored and a stolen base, while Solodkin finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Senior
Mitch D'Amato (Edison, N.J./Edison) tossed 6.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and five hits with one strikeout and two walks (2-0). Freshman
Kevin Ludden (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Twp.) pitched the final 2.0 perfect innings, registering one strikeout.
Five different Bearcats came up with Baruch's five hits. Freshman Ryan Warner allowed five runs on 11 hits and two walks, striking out one over 5.0 innings as the starter (2-1).
