WAYNE, N.J. -- Eight different swimmers won individual events as the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (7-3) cruised past Brooklyn (2-2), 115-74, Dec. 10.
The Pioneers were led by three double winners.
Junior Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) touched first in the 200 back (2:06.02) and 200 breast (2:26.34), sophomore
Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 50 free (23.30) and 100 free (52.29), and freshman
Emmanuel Garcia (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) took home the one-meter (148.15) and three-meter (163.30) dives.
WP also had five single winners and two relay victories. Junior
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) won the 200 IM behind a personal-best time (2:12.35), and freshman
Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) won the 500 free (5:40.24), his second career individual victory.
Senior
Nick Cowie (Newton, N.J./Newton) prevailed in the 200 fly (2:11.21) and also contributed with Taboadela, Melendez and Macchia in WP's 400 medley relay victory (3:49.08).
Freshman
Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) captured the 200 free (2:00.04), and senior
Jeremy Oiler (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) was victorious in the 1,650 free (19:21.94). Logue and Oiler aided
Daniel Sweeney (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) and freshman
Terrence Hopkins (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) in the 400 free relay victory (3:47.35).
William Paterson will travel to train in Barbados before it goes to Queens Thursday, Jan. 12, at 4:00 p.m.
