WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (5-1) had its season-opening win streak snapped at five after a 130-106 loss to SUNY Maritime (1-0) Nov. 1.
The final outcome hinged on the result of a relay event for the third straight season between these two teams. SUNY Maritime secured the top two places in the 200 medley relay to help create the difference.
Junior
Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) was a triple winner, setting season bests in the 200 IM (2:04.38), 100 back (55.58) and 100 breast (1:03.74).
Sophomore
Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added two wins for WP, recording a season best in the 100 free (50.62) while also claiming the 50 free (22.64).
Senior
Nick Cowie (Newton, N.J./Newton) won the 100 fly (55.38) and also contributed to WP's victory in the 200 free relay, joining junior
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland), senior
Jeremy Oiler (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) and Macchia in the win (1:32.92)
William Paterson's next meet is at Staten Island Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 6:00 p.m.
